Five-Time Bathurst 1000 Winner Steve Richards to Race Historic Texaco Ford Sierra at the Nürburgring

NÜBURGRING, GERMANY - A Five-time Bathurst 1000 champion Steve Richards is set to get behind the wheel of an iconic Eggenberger Motorsport-built Group A Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth.

Richards will compete in the prestigious BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix on the Nürburgring GP circuit.

The famous #9 Texaco Sierra, owned for several years by New Zealander Bruce Miles, recently underwent a complete engine rebuild in Switzerland by a former Eggenberger Motorsport mechanic.

"When you grow up in racing and you see these iconic cars that my dad raced and all those guys he raced against, it's great to drive one now," said Richards. "I have had a few chats with Bruce over time... He is a lovely guy, and I am really looking forward to it."

Heritage of the Chassis

The Eggenberger-built Sierra boasts a rich history in Australasian motorsport. Originally campaigned in Australia by motorsport legend Allan Moffat, the car won the 1988 Sandown 500 with Moffat and Gregg Hansford. It remained a staple of Moffat's team through the end of the Group A touring car era.

Richards will take to the track for an open test day before official racing action commences.
